Flat design is a term that is used for the two-dimensional images that have been popping up everywhere lately and has become popular with UX Design, (User Experience Design) on websites and mobile apps.
It is true that flat design is a minimalistic approach but it is more about bringing design back to being used as a functional tool then just fancy, flashy images.
Flat design is not a lazy approach to design as the images and icons are still well thought out and focus on simplicity. Using the age old saying “Less is more” designers can use basic shapes with crisp clean lines and bright vivid colours to send out quick, readable messages that all users/viewers will understand.

I really enjoy this style of design. Very easy to get your message across without losing the attention of your audience.
People have really short attention spans and as a result you only have one or two seconds to grab someones attention. A simple, interesting image with a short amount of text is a great way to do this.
